Hello everyone!
I am hoping to assemble a one hour session on the general topic of "Navigating a Career in RD without a Doctorate." I have some thoughts but would love to hear those of others, especially from RD professionals who do not hold PhDs and who are fairly advanced in their careers (as I'm on the newer side myself).
Ideas, suggestions of resources, and volunteers to co-present are welcome! I can be reached at katherine_duggan@brown.edu, or with a reply to this thread, ideally before September 27.
Thank you--see you in San Antonio!

Hello, Kate. I don't hold a PhD, but am officially "new" to research development (less than one year). I'm very interested in the topic, so would attend this session.

Kate, I would be interested but am only new to NORD. Somewhat far along in my career and with a PhD.

Hi Kate,
I'm newer (3+ years) to the RD field, and have a unique position working with only one PI right now. I do not hold a PhD but have an M.Ed. I would be interested in possibly co-presenting, helping put together a session.

Hi Kate, I am very interested in this topic but not sure what I would have to contribute as a panelist. I direct our small proposal development office here at the University of Georgia (and have done so for almost 4 years) and I do not have a doctorate (or a Director title, for that matter). I am not actively looking for employment elsewhere, and I have a lot more questions than answers about what the possibilities are for advancement in RD without a PhD... If this doesn't "make" as a panel session, it would be really good as a Roundtable. My contact info: Jake Maas, M.A. Proposal Enhancement Officer Office of Research | University of Georgia 419 Tucker Hall, 310 East Campus Road, Athens, GA 30602-1589 Office: 706.542.2090 | jnmaas@uga.edu research.uga.edu/proposal-enhancement/

Hi Kate!
I am definitely interested in your topic, as I do not have a PhD, and am looking to further my career in research development. In my current role, I am a coordinator working on our research development team. Unfortunately, I am also on the newer side of RD (right at 3 years). If I can be of help, just let me know.
Thank you! Missy missy@tennessee.edu

HI Kate,
I have a BA, am beginning my Master's and will be working in RD for 5 years by NORDP 2020. I have had lots of pep talks with myself about why faculty should work with lil' ol' me ... I am willing to be part of a discussion around this topic and, if you are looking for a panelist, I could be convinced. I am working on another abstract for a session, and plan on submitting an idea for a lightning talk or roundtable discussion.
Please let us know how you plan to move forward. Jess

I do not hold a doctorate. I have been in RD for just over 25 years, starting as a Research Project Manager at a national laboratory, then several top-tier research universities (both state and private) with titles such as Coordinator of Research Programs, Research Manager, Assistant Director of Research, Assistant Dean. I am now Director of Interdisciplinary Research at the BioFrontiers Institute at University of Colorado-Boulder. I am very interested in this topic and would like to discuss this topic with you further!
